Put the removed sentences back into the right gaps in the text.
Whole sentences have been removed from a text and you put them back. This is not a comprehension task at all — it is a cohesion task. The answer is decided by reference words, linkers and time markers: a "this" that must point back to something, a "however" that needs a contrast before it, a pronoun with no antecedent yet.
Work the gaps in the order that is easiest, not the order they appear. Some are decided by a single unmistakable link; do those first and the field narrows for the rest. Read across the gap — what follows it constrains the answer as much as what precedes it. And always check the extra option that fits nowhere: if it slotted in comfortably somewhere, you have made a mistake earlier.
Because the units are single sentences, the decisive clue is usually one word: a pronoun, a demonstrative, a linker. Circle those at the start and end of every option before you try to place any of them.
To stop the last gap being free. There is always one more option than there are gaps, so working by elimination alone will not carry you to the end — every gap has to be justified by an actual link in the text.
Reference and linking words at the start and end of each option — "this", "such", "these", "instead", "even so", "a year later". They tie an option to one specific position far more reliably than topic does, because several options usually share the topic.
