Listen to five speakers and complete two matching tasks at once — twice the concentration.
Five short monologues with two matching tasks running at the same time — one on each speaker's main point, one on something else such as their attitude or what they are doing. Both tasks run over the same five speakers, which is what makes this the most concentration-heavy part of the paper.
The reliable method is to take one task per play: use the first listen for Task 1 across all five speakers, the second for Task 2. Trying to hold both lists in mind at once is how candidates lose answers on both. Provisional marks on the first pass, confirmed on the second.
Most candidates do better taking one task per play. Both tasks cover the same five speakers, so the second play is a complete second chance at the material rather than a review.
The two tasks have separate option lists and are marked independently, so an answer in one does not constrain the other. Within a task, each option is used at most once and there are more options than speakers.
