Listen and complete each sentence with a word or short phrase from the recording.
One longer recording with sentences to complete, and it is the only part of the paper where you write rather than choose. That changes what is being tested: the word you need is spoken on the recording, usually exactly as you must write it, so this is a listening task with a spelling component attached.
The sentences on the page are a map of the recording in order. Read them before it starts and predict what kind of word each gap needs — a number, a job, a material, a plural. A gap you have predicted grammatically is far easier to fill in real time than one you meet cold.
Yes. You write the word you hear, and a misspelling can cost the mark. Write the word the speaker used rather than a synonym of your own, even if yours fits the sentence better.
Usually one to three, and the sentence itself tells you — read it complete with your answer in place. If it needs rephrasing to make sense, the answer is wrong, because the surrounding words are fixed.
